A delegation of BJP leaders, led by former Mayor Bakshi Ram Arora, has demanded deployment of paramilitary forces in ward number 50 and security for the party candidate, Raj Kumar. The party accused its rivals of resorting to violence.
While giving a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shivdular Singh Dhillon, they alleged that the ruling Congress was misusing the government machinery to influence the by-elections in ward 50. They appealed to the DC to ensure peaceful and fair election.
Arora alleged that the model code of conduct was being flouted in the run up to the election. He claimed that BJP candidate from the ward Raj Kumar was being issued threats by the rivals. He sought relevant legal action against them.
He reminded the district administration about the fate of the then sitting councillor Gurdeep Singh Pehalwan who was shot dead in this ward.
