With pendency of 5,246 audit para objections in 2,641 inspection reports by the Accountant General (AG), Punjab, the School Education Department is facing a herculean task as it is trying to get through these objections.

For the accumulating number of objections in the inspection reports by the AG and the department officials at the district level not settling these audit observations and objections in the past over one year, the Education Department has directed officials at the state headquarters and in the district to make speedy disposal of these objections or face the music.

As per the report received from the AG office, and further sent to the district level authorities and all drawing and disbursing officers in the department, the deputy controller (finance and accounts) in the School Education Department has conveyed that there was a pendency of as many as 5,246 audit para objections in 2,641 inspection reports of the AG office in 13 districts of the state.

The maximum number of these para objections are (790) in Ludhiana district, followed by 717 in Hoshiarpur, 631 in Bathinda and Mansa, 617 in Jalandhar, 527 in Barnala and Sangrur, 416 in Ferozepur, 400 in Muktsar, 383 in Moga, 319 in Amritsar, 307 in Kapurthala and 139 in Faridkot.

These objection paras and reports sent to various offices in the department at the district level were issued before September 30, 2017, and were not settled in the stipulated time limit up to March 31, 2018, reads the deputy controller’s (finance and accounts) note sent to the district authorities in the Education Department.

Directing the district authorities for speedy settlement of all audit observations/objections, the department has asked them for compliance notes from all officers concerned and handover required compliances/documents and rebuttal in the annotated form to the AG office for timely settlement.
