Two years after starting the digital evaluation of answer sheets for various medical examinations, Baba Farid University of Health Science has now introduced online system to apply for re-checking of answer sheets.

Now, if a student fails in any exam and wants to get the answer sheets of a particular paper rechecked, he has to apply online within 30 days from the date of declaration of the results, said Dr SP Singh, Controller of Examinations, Baba Farid University of Health Science.

Such students now need not visit the university for submitting the application for rechecking.

Physical submission of rechecking form is not allowed henceforth, said Dr SP Singh. Rechecking fee for various courses is Rs 1,000 per answer sheet. Separate fee will be charged for each answer sheet if a subject/paper has two parts/sections and each part/section has been attempted on a different answer sheet.

Rechecking will be done to check whether the marks awarded for various answers have been correctly calculated and that all the answers have been assessed by the examiner. Revaluation of answer sheet will not be admissible in any examination of any faculty.

Leaving no scope for tampering with answer sheets, two year ago, Baba Farid University of Health Science had introduced the digital evaluation system of answer sheets for all exams.

Earlier, evaluation took 30 to 60 days. With digital evaluation, the entire process is completed within just 15-20 days, including the announcement of the results.

Earlier there were allegations that some students were getting favours from evaluators. Under the new system, every answer sheet is allotted with a barcode, an optical machine-readable representation of the roll number so that the evaluator could not know the identity of the candidate/student. The answer sheet is handed over to the software provider, where they are scanned and are ready to be evaluated by trained examiners.

All security measures are taken to ensure smooth transaction of the answer sheets from hard copy to soft copy and prevent any scope of cheating. Unique bar code stickers are attached to the answer sheets before scanning, sources added.

BFUHS is the first medical university in the North and the second in the country to implement the system of digital evaluation of answer sheets. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Karnataka is the first medical university in the country to implement this system.

The system effectively checks any chances of tampering with the answer scripts as the answer scripts are directly not accessible to any teacher.

The evaluator go through the answer sheet on the screen of his/her computer and award the marks, said the sources.

Transportation of bundles of sheets to any evaluator is a thing of the past. Valuation and tabulation take place simultaneously, the sources added.
