Bathinda wins overall trophy in state games

The three-day Punjab State Games for Girls (Under-14) on Thursday concluded at the Multipurpose Sports Stadium here.

On the last day, hosts Bathinda won the overall trophy whereas Ludhiana got the second and Jalandhar third place.

The District Sports Officer said Bathinda came first with 18 points followed by Ludhiana at the second position with 17 points and Jalandhar at the third position with 12 points.

Chief guest Jasvir Singh Hundal, registrar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh University, Bathinda, distributed medals to the winners of basketball. In the finals of basketball, Ludhiana defeated Bathinda by 27-22 points, won gold and Bathinda got silver. Amritsar defeated Jalandhar by 45-23 points to win the bronze medal.

Col SS Gill, Commanding Officer, Bathinda, distributed medals to the winning players in kabaddi. Bathinda defeated Kapurthala by 48-46 to win gold and silver medals. Faridkot and Fazilka jointly won the bronze medal in kabaddi.

In handball, Rupnagar defeated Ferozepur 14-9 to win the first place and won gold and Ferozepur got silver. Mohali won the bronze by defeating Sangrur by 10-7. Baljeet Kumar, District Education Officer (Secondary), Bathinda, attended the ceremony to distribute handball to the winning teams.

District Sports Officer Vijay Kumar distributed medals to the winners of the football tournament. In the final match, Sri Muktsar Sahib beat Ludhiana 3-0 to win gold and silver medals. Mansa won the bronze medal by defeating Barnala by 2-0.

In volleyball, medals were distributed to the players by Gurpreet Singh, AEO, Bathinda. In the volleyball final, Faridkot defeated Bathinda by 3-0 and Bathinda secured the second position. Ludhiana got the third place by defeating Rupnagar by 3-1.

Bathinda SDM Amarinder Singh Tiwana and Naib Tehsildar Bhagtan Bhaija, Puneet Kumar, were present to distribute the prizes to the players of kho-kho. Sri Muktsar Sahib defeated Sangrur 13-11 in the final of kho-kho. Sangrur got the second position and Ludhiana third, defeating Patiala.

In boxing, Gurmit Singh, Superintendent of Police (City), Bathinda, distributed the medals among the winners.
