A ‘baraat’ returned empty-handed from a Phagwara village after the bride refused to marry the groom who, she claimed, was double her age and that she was shown the picture of a young boy when the marriage was fixed.

As per reports, the marriage of a girl at Jagjitpur village was fixed with a Mukerian youth, Jarnail Singh.

It is learnt that the girl happened to see the photos of grooms that were clicked as the marriage function was under way. She claimed she had never seen the man she was going to marry, not even in photographs, before today. She openly refused to marry the “elderly man”, leading to tension in the village.

A brawl ensued between the two sides and after some hours villagers came forward in support of the girl. The matter was brought to the notice of the Rawalpindi police.

SHO Usha Rani, when contacted, said the police are investigating the matter and the baraat was turned back to Mukerian.
