Bank employee catches youth fleeing with ATM card, money

A bank employee caught hold of one of the two youths who tried to run away with an ATM card and Rs 10,000 cash of an elderly at the ATM of an SBI branch in Garhshankar.

The second youth managed to escape from the spot. Gyan Chand (65) of ward No. 6 of Garhshankar went to an SBI ATM to withdraw money. When he entered the ATM booth, the two youths, who were already present there, said they would help him get his money withdrawn. On it, Gyan Chand gave him the ATM card and one of the youths inserted it in the ATM. Afterwards, they asked Gyan Chand to enter the ATM PIN. He entered the PIN in front of the duo. One of them took out Rs 10,000 in cash from his account through the card and told the victim to give his card so that he could check the balance in his account for him. As he gave them the card, the duo changed the card with their card and fled the spot with his ATM card and Rs 10,000.

The victim came out of the ATM cabin and raised an alarm. A bank worker chased and caught one of the suspects. Getting information, ASI Mahinder Pal of the Garhshankar police reached the spot along with a police party and took the youths into custody. The arrested suspect was identified as Ajay, a resident of Roorkee in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. He said the other youth was Bablu and he hails from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The Garhshankar police have registered a case against Ajay and Bablu under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC.

The investigation officer in the case, ASI Mahinderpal, said during the primary investigation, it was found that Ajay and Bablu had come from their houses on August 20 and the suspects had confessed that since then they had carried out six such incidents.
