The Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) project, launched at the government elementary schools in the state, under ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’project, is successfully running and is a hit among kids as they are reportedly making full use of the informatory material written on the walls of the classrooms and on the pillars of the buildings.

Divulging details, Varindervir Singh, District Coordinator, ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ project, said: “Majority of the schools in the district, as well as at nearby villages, have adopted BaLA project and decorated the walls of the buildings of the schools by writing tables, poems, valuable messages and other useful contents, adding that we have found the results fruitful and the BaLA will be replicated soon in all model schools of the state.”

The BaLA project is an innovative concept towards a qualitative improvement in education through developing child-friendly learning and physical environment building at the school infrastructure. The department has been emphasising the schools to adopt such innovative techniques and shift towards modern learning and teaching.

The State Education Department has asked the teachers to make full use activities like “Aao Gayiye” (Let us sing) book to motivate students to recite rhymes and to use the activity for teaching, along with making use of different teaching aids including, illustrated cards, flash cards etc under ‘Khed Mahal’ (Activity Calendar) launched last year, to help kids learn in a better way.

Officials of the Education Department said: “By adding such innovations in classes, the children will be motivated towards learning and the environment will help them to grow and develop their personality in a better way.”

Harvinder Kaur, a teacher at the Government Elementary School, Maqsudan, said: “We have decorated all walls of the classroom and playground to help children learn during their break time, adding that many times we conduct classes at playground and walls serve as a great aid in teaching.”
