Hundreds of farmers in the district are awaiting procurement of their bajra produce, for they could not register on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (e-kharid) portal. They fear that their produce might go unsold as government agencies will stop the procurement on Thursday.

It is mandatory for farmers to register on the portal so that government agencies buy the produce at the MSP, which is Rs1,950 per quintal for bajra.

Several farmers, who missed the deadline to register, had moved applications in hard copy. They blame the state government for not taking a decision on their offline applications.

They have been making rounds of grain markets and the office of the Agriculture Department daily to know about the status of their applications, but to no avail.

Chand Singh, president of the Jhajjar Grain Market Commission Agents Association, said: “In all, 1,534 farmers in the district either failed to register on the portal due to technical reasons or could not apply because they were unaware.”

He further said several farmers had stocked bajra produce in their houses, while others were still to harvest their crop to avoid the extra labour cost in bringing the produce first to the home and then to the grain market.

“The government should direct its agencies to procure bajra of unregistered farmers without further delay,” he demanded.

Ramesh, a farmer, said: “I have been visiting the grain market (in Jhajjar) daily for the past two weeks, hoping for the good news. But every day, I return disappointed. If the situation persists, farmers will be forced to sell their produce to private buyers at rates less than the MSP.”

Rohtash, Deputy Director (Agriculture), said cases of all farmers had been sent to the Chief Administrator, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, for approval and the decision was likely to be taken soon.

Manoj, Secretary, District Marketing Committee, Jhajjar, said 2.1 lakh quintals of bajra had been procured.
