Ludhiana, October 18
A five-day-old premature baby (32 weeks) with growth restricted and 1.6 kg weight was referred to a Ludhiana hospital in a critical condition.
The baby had multiple problems as he had a hemodynamically significant ductus and the parents were told that there was a need for surgical intervention. Meticulous medical management with Ionotropes, NSAIDS, iv antibiotics, coupled with supportive care and non-invasive ventilation, worked wonders for the baby.
Eventually, ductus closed on the fourth day of admission and the baby was weaned off from respiratory support. — TNS
