The police have booked five persons, including two women, for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl and pushing her into prostitution. The police said one of the suspected women was a relative of the girl with whom she had been staying for the past two months.

The police had arrested four of the five suspects yesterday and registered a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the complaint of the girl’s relatives.

The suspects have been identified as Gagandeep Kaur, Baljinder Singh, Pooja, Happy and Karamjit Singh.

According to the police, girl’s aunt Gagandeep Kaur, along with her friend Pooja, allegedly took money from three men and pushed her into prostitution.

The matter came to light when the girl narrated her ordeal to her uncle. The police informed all arrested were produced in a court, which sent them to three-day police custody.

The police said that girl’s father was a labourer and was unable to take care of her daughter following which her uncle’s family was looking after her.

The matter came to light after the girl complained of pain in her abdomen. The police also informed about the incident to the office of the Child Protection Officer.

Station House Officer (SHO) Gurmeet Singh said the medical examination of the girl was underway and the report would be out soon.
