Athletics meet opens at girls’ college

Ludhiana, February 12

Gaganpreet Kaur, a student of BBA-I, proved too good for her opponents as she came out triumphant in the 800m race on the opening day of the 76th Annual Athletics Meet of Government College for Girls here on Tuesday.

In other track and field events, students who emerged winners included Harkanwal Kaur of BA-I in long jump, Rajpreet Kaur of MA-I in discus throw and Simranjit Kaur of BA-III in shot put events.

In fun games, the first position was bagged by Jyoti of BA-II in sack race, Meena of BA-II in spoon and potato race, Neha Mehra of BCom-III in chatti race and Komal of MA-II in 1,500m cycle race.

Sukhpal Singh Brar, an Arjuna award winner (volleyball) and ADCP (Traffic), Ludhiana, inaugurated the two-day meet.

Principal of LLR Government College, Dhudike and former international hockey star, Sharanjit Kaur, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

• 800m race: Gagandeep Kaur of BBA-I first, Avleen Kaur of BCom-II second and Jaswinder Kaur of BA-1 third.
• Long jump: Harkanwal Kaur of BA-1 first, Jyoti of BA-I second and Nikita Pal of BA-II third.
• Chatti race: Neha Mehra of BCom-III first, Anjali of BA-1 second and Jyoti of BA-I third.
• 1,500-m cycle race: Komal of MA-II first, Mamta Rani of BA-II second and Hardeep Kaur of MA-II third.
• Discus throw: Rajpreet of MA-I first, Anmolpreet Kaur of BCom-II second and Nitasha Sharma of BCom-I third.
• Shot put: Simranjit Kaur of BA-III first, Ravleen Kaur of BA-III second and Harkanwal Kaur of BA-I third.
• Sack race: Jyoti of BA-II first, Pooja of MSc (Botany)-I second and Meena of BA-II third.
• Spoon and potato race: Meena of BA-II first, Akshita of BSc-I second and Stuti Jain of BA-I third.
• Class IV employees’ race: Rahul first and Gurpreet second.
