Patiala, January 12

As a mark of protest, assistant professors of grant-aided colleges in the district brunt degrees and research papers in the Lohri bonfire on Saturday.

Demanding regularisation, assistant professors said the government had not initiated the process of regularisation till now, despite the fact that they had completed their probation period in July last year. In fact, 1,925 posts of assistant professors in government-aided colleges were filled through a court order in 2016.

The government had formed a committee to review the regularisation of these posts in the state in September 2018.

The protesters said that the committee had completed the review, but the government was not regularising them.

Assistant prof Arwinder Kaur Kakra said, “We appeal to the government to regularise the assistant professors with full salary.”

Mandeep Kaur, district president of the Grant-in-Aid Professors’ Association, said that if the government did not pay attention to their long-pending demand for regularisation, they would intensify their protest in the coming days.
