An assistant professor teaching in Chandigarh University has accused Haryana Roadways staff of misbehaving with her. Gurpreet Kaur, 32, who was travelling from Delhi to Chandigarh on Friday, alleged that when she questioned the conductor for overloading the bus (HR-74B-2601), the latter misbehaved with her.
Accompanied by her mother and maternal aunt, Gurpreet boarded the bus from the ISBT, Delhi, at 5pm. “When I sat inside the bus, it was already full. The driver stopped to pick up more passengers after leaving the bus stop and a couple of them were drunk,” she said.
Gurpreet said, “Men were standing on our heads. My mother was on a corner seat and a man kept falling on her. I complained to the conductor, but he continued to pick up passengers.”
When contacted at around 9.55 pm, Gurpreet said that she was 25 kms from Ambala.
She added that they were told that the bus would reach Chandigarh around 10.15 pm. However, it took longer as the driver kept on picking up passengers.
Gurpreet said she would file a complaint with the authorities concerned regarding the roadways staff.
