Ludhiana, July 22

Council of Engineers, a private association, has complained to the Chief Minister, Local Bodies Minister and other authorities concerned against mushrooming of illegal colonies in the state.

They have blamed that illegal colonies have come up allegedly with the connivance of the officials concerned of different departments in the state.

Kapil Arora of Council of Engineers, said: “After the enactment of PAPRA Act, it is not possible for any private coloniser to launch any project without illegal involvement and support of the officials concerned. Illegal colonies have mushroomed due to disobeying directions of law by the officials of different departments. A high-level inquiry should be initiated in this regard.”

Sanjay Verma of the association said the vacant plots of the illegal colonies should be declared public properties in revenue records and converted into parks and green belts. Besides, hefty penalty should be imposed on colonisers and the funds should be used for development works in the localities concerned.
