Reiterating that carrying out development of his area is the duty of any elected representative and not a favour to beneficiaries, Congress candidate for Dakha byelection, Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu, said the Assembly segment would turn into a mini-secretariat for other segments of the region after he (Sandhu) was officially elected legislator.

Addressing meetings at Ghungrana, Jurahan, Ranguwal, Dhulkot, Chhapar and Hargobind Pura villages in the district, Captain Sandhu said residents of Dakha constituency would now have easy access to the office of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, without bothering to travel to the state capital.

“As I have been facilitating redressal of issues of activists of our party coming from all Assembly segments of the state by meeting them at Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh, residents of this region deserve my scheduled availability near their base after I am elected their formal representative,” said Sandhu, acknowledging that visiting any secretariat was cumbersome for a common man.

Terming his party candidature as big responsibility rather than being a privilege, Sandhu said he felt enthused and honoured on being trusted by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for serving people of Dakha, who according to him had been deceived time and again.

He said he need not mention who was responsible for devastation of a large number of families of Dakha area as their sons couldn’t escape from the clutches of drug addiction.

Justifying demands raised by residents of some localities regarding neglect in terms of development during the past decade, Sandhu assured that each locality would be sent adequate grants for undertaking long-pending development projects.

Repairs and reconstruction of roads and streets, strengthening of water supply and sewerage, improvement of facilities at schools and enhancement of medical facilities were cited among his priorities.

Former minister Malkit Singh Dakha, legislator Lakhvir Singh Lakha and others also addressed the meetings.
