Taking stern action against a policeman who was hand in glove with drug peddlers, Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today dismissed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) after he was found guilty during an enquiry.

Bhullar said, “ASI Sarabjit Singh bearing (belt number 2943 Jalandhar) has been dismissed from service due to his connivance with drug peddlers. The ASI, posted in the narcotics cell, was himself a drug addict and was found guilty of violating the service rules by helping drug peddlers, thereby blatantly misusing his position. Recently, he was also caught red-handed by the Vigilance Bureau for his corrupt practices.”

While reiterating the commitment of the commisisonerate police to wipe out the drug menace from the district, Bhullar added zero tolerance policy was being adopted by the force against drugs. No matter who indulges in this crime, no one would not be spared by the commissionerate police, he added.

He said strict vigil was being kept by the police to check the supply of drugs.

Bhullar added that a special mass awareness campaign, under the aegis of the drug abuse prevention officer (DAPO) drive, had already been initiated to create awareness among people against this curse.
