Bathinda, August 22

Malwa College here applauded the announcement of the prestigious Arjuna Award for its former student Tejinder Pal Singh Toor.

Hailing from Moga district’s Khosa Pando village, he did Bachelor of Physical Education (3-year course) from the institution.

Reminiscing the athlete’s college days, Dean of the college RC Sharma told The Tribune that despite his outstanding achievements, he was a grounded person. He was an All India-University Games gold medallist and had represented Punjabi University, Patiala, at the national level, Sharma said.

Toor was supposed to be conferred with the Arjuna Award on August 29 during an award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. However, he won’t be available in the country on the day due to his practice schedule in Czech Republic, followed by World Athletics Championship in Doha.

Over a telephonic conversation, Toor said he wants to dedicate the prestigious award to his parents.

He said his college days were unforgettable and would always be. The Indian shot-putter holds the national outdoor record of 20.75 m. He won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta.

KPS Brar (IRS), general secretary, Punjab Athletics Association, congratulated the college management and faculty members for the outstanding achievement of their former athlete. College director Prof Darshan Singh, Dean RC Sharma and faculty members also congratulated Toor for his achievement.
