Expressing shock over the reported abduction and forced conversion of a Sikh girl to Islam in Nankana Sahib in Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today called upon Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take firm action against those involved.
He sought the intervention of both Indian and Pakistan governments in the matter. He urged External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to take up the issue with his counterpart in Islamabad immediately.
Expressing anger and describing the incident as shocking, Capt Amarinder said those responsible for the crime should not be allowed to get away. “Religion is a personal matter and forcible conversion has no place in any society,” he asserted. The abducted Sikh girl’s family alleged she was forced to marry a Muslim boy after being converted to Islam. A purported video of the girl’s wedding went viral on social media. — TNS
