Jalandhar, December 17

A delegation of Anganwari workers today met the Deputy Commissioner (DC), demanding that their salaries should also be hiked like the hike in the salaries of the MLAs.

Members of the All Punjab Anganwari Employees Union, Jalandhar, under district president Satwant Kaur, met the DC, in order to submit a memorandum of their demands to the Chief Minister. They demanded that if there could be a 125-times rise in the salaries of Anganwadi employees, the state government should also ensure a 2.5 times rise in the allowances of the 54,000 Anganwari employees.

They said on the lines of Haryana, Anganwari workers be given Rs 10,000 per month and their helpers be paid Rs 5,000 per month.

Workers said while MLAs were getting salaries of over a lakh, their salaries also be increased, failing which they would hold protest.
