Alumni recollect memories at college

JALANDHAR: To mark the 81st birth anniversary of Late Sardar Babir Singh, former member of parliament, cabinet minister, Punjab, and president, Lyallpur Khalsa College governing council, an alumni meet was held on the premises of Lyallpur Khalsa College here today.

To mark the 81st birth anniversary of Late Sardar Babir Singh, former member of parliament, cabinet minister, Punjab, and president, Lyallpur Khalsa College governing council, an alumni meet was held on the premises of Lyallpur Khalsa College here today.

Dr SPS Virk, founder, Virk Hospital, Jalandhar, was the chief guest on the occasion. The president of the college governing council, Sardarni Balbir Kaur and college principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra welcomed the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal said the institution owed a lot to the visionary guidance of Sardar Balbir Singh for its current status and also mentioned the fact that the college is the only institution in North India with a governing council, mostly comprising of its old students.

He also lauded the noteworthy contribution of the former students for the college’s recognition at the national as well as international level.

In his address, the chief guest connected his achievements with the college and his honour associated with the institution. He also appreciated the college’s immense commitment laden association to its former students.

Alumni of the college participated in various programmes such as songs, group dance and poetry recitation to relive their college memories.

The stage was conducted by Dr Surinderpal Mand. Jaspal Singh Waraich, joint secretary, governing council, Jagdeep Singh Shergill, Bhupinder Singh Mann (member governing council), Dawinder Dyalpuri along with staff members and other acquaintances of the college were present on the occasion. Prof Sanjeev Anand, coordinator of the Alumni Association event, thanked the guests.
