Akal Takht fetes Sikh personalities

AMRITSAR: The SGPC installed a portrait of Sikh scholar, late Raghbir Singh Bains at the Central Sikh Museum at the Golden Temple Complex on Friday. Two Sikh personalities were also honoured by the Akal Takht for their contribution in propagating Sikhism.

The SGPC installed a portrait of Sikh scholar, late Raghbir Singh Bains at the Central Sikh Museum at the Golden Temple Complex on Friday. Two Sikh personalities were also honoured by the Akal Takht for their contribution in propagating Sikhism.

In the presence of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Takht Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, a picture of Bains was installed in the museum to recognise his services.

Apart from preparing Sikh encyclopedia, he established five multimedia Sikh museums, one of which was located at Khadoor Sahib. 

Longowal announced to set up a Sikh library in the native village of Bains in Hoshiarpur. Meanwhile, Baba Sewa Singh of Khadoor Sahib also spoke about the contribution of Bains to the Sikh Panth, besides sensitising people to drug menace.

On another occasion at Akal Takht, Sant Baba Sucha Singh Jawdi Taksal was given the title of ‘Shiromani Gurmat Sangeet Parcharak’ posthumously by Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. The title was accepted by Taksal’s head Baba Amir Singh. He was honoured with a siropa (a robe of honour), a shawl, Sri Sahib (a religious symbol). 

Similarly, Saroop Singh Alag was presented with Principal Ganga Singh Shiromani Award. As he could not make it to the programme due to ill health, the award will be delivered to him at his home.
