AIIMS: Classes for first batch begin

FARIDKOT: With 40 students — 28 boys and 12 girls, classes for the MBBS first batch of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Bathinda began on its transit campus at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College (GGSMC) here on Monday.

With 40 students — 28 boys and 12 girls, classes for the MBBS first batch of All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Bathinda began on its transit campus at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College (GGSMC) here on Monday.

The GGSMC is a constituent college of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BBFUHS).

The first batch of AIIMS Bathinda will have 53 students. While 40 students have also already taken admission, for the remaining 13 seats, the AIIMS-New Delhi, has initiated an open round counselling on Monday. The counselling will be completed on Tuesday.

The AIIMS has engaged 14 faculty members for the first batch of MBBS students. Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, addressed the students on Monday. He is also a member of the governing body of the AIIMS-Bathinda.

The AIIMS building in Bathinda is being under construction so the first batch has started in Faridkot. Once the construction of the building is completed, the classes will be shifted to it. The faculty of AIIMS-Bathinda has been provided with accommodation on the medical campus here.

While there were three bidders to provide service of transit camp to the AIIMS-Bathinda till its building is constructed, but the Union Government had given the go-ahead to start the first batch in Faridkot in March. —TNS
