Ambala, September 4

Day after a large scale chit fund scam came to fore, another fraud pertaining to jobs has surfaced in Ambala. Several persons have been duped on the fake promise of providing them jobs in private airlines at Chandigarh international airport through a leading employment portal.

The job scam came to fore here today when the local police registered a case against three persons, who ran a leading job portal and posed themselves as the officials of a leading private airlines company, on the complaint of one of the victims, Chetam Sharma of Sarsehri in Ambala.

The complainant reported to the police that after completing BCom in May 2018, he was looking for a suitable job and in January 2019, Dhanraj Gill, Vipul Goyal and Sumit Sexana of a leading job portal issued an advertisement of job placement on their website, representing them to be job providers, alluring the public at large.

Man falls prey to advertisement trap

“I also fell prey to the advertisement and as I came in contact with the accused persons, they represented themselves to be the officials of a private airlines,” he stated.

According to the complaint, in May, the victim was promised a job of Accounts Officer with a leading airlines company subject to his clearing the telephonic interview.

“Following the telephonic interview by one Dhanraj Gill, I was told to be a suitable candidate for the job and was promised to be appointed at Chandigarh international airport from June 1 at an annual package of Rs 3.6 lakh,” he alleged.

On May 14, he received a job confirmation letter informing him that he had been appointed as Accounts Officer at Chandigarh international airport and his joining date will be June 1 at an annual salary package of Rs 3.6 lakh per annum, besides other allowances, which shall be paid before fifth of every month and his salary shall be reviewed after every six months.

Made to pay Rs73,900

Sharma further alleged that he was made to pay Rs 73,900 under the garb of different formalities and paperwork, but before the promised joining date he got a call that the job could not be provided and his entire amount of Rs 73,900 would be refunded shortly.

“On June 8, I received a call from a woman who represented herself as an officer from the Airports Authority of India and told me that I was cheated and defrauded by the accused persons and they have committed fraud upon me as they were not entitled to receive any amount on behalf of the jobs promised in the private airlines company. I again received a call on June 10 from another person who also represented himself to be an officer of the Airports Authority of India and told me that for refund of my money, 80 per cent process has been done and further required me to send Rs 35,000 for final refund,” the complainant revealed.

Realising that he had already been cheated, Sharma refused to pay any further amount and reported the matter to the DGP, who ordered to register a case in this connection. A case has been registered under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against Dhanraj Gill, Vipul Goyal and Sumit Saxena. “We have begun investigations in the case and more such complaints are pouring in, which we are also investigating,” a senior official said.
