Bengaluru, January 20

Congress on Monday suspended its MLA who wounded his party colleague in a brawl that comes amid renewed political tussle on Karnataka.

The party said in its press release that it had suspended lawmaker JN Ganesh, who assaulted another MLA Anand Singh at a resort near Bengaluru.

The incident occurred late on Sunday night at the resort where the Congress MLAs are hunkered down since Friday in an attempt to keep their flock together against BJP’s alleged bid to topple the ruling Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress alliance, sources said.

Hospet MLA Singh was admitted to a private hospital after he and Kampli legislator JN Ganesh, both from Ballari district, came to blows after a heated argument. Ganesh is believed to be under the BJP radar.

Singh had “a black eye and suffered blunt injuries,” according to sources at the hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Ganesh is among the disgruntled Congress MLAs who, with other rebel legislators, plan to switch to the BJP. Agencies
