Chandigarh, October 18

In a relief to traders, UT Adviser Manoj Kumar Parida has directed the Municipal Corporation (MC) to allow shopkeepers to put up stalls without causing any obstruction in the public pathways.

Sources said the direction was issued after a delegation of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM), headed by its president Anil Vohra, sought allowing setting up of stalls in the space between the corridor and the parking lot at the city markets.

Mayor Kalia said except for the Sector 22 and 17 markets, permission would be given to put up stalls as per the past practice prior to Diwali.

Earlier, the MC had put on hold the requests for permission to set up stalls, following the Punjab and Haryana High Court order on widespread encroachments in the city markets.
