Addict murdered, 2 booked

A youth was killed in a clash at Rayya here late on Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Shamsher Singh. The accused are Gurjit Singh, alias Babba, and Ravinder Singh Chatha. All of them have already been facing criminal charges.

An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. The police registered a case against Babba and Chatha on Thursday. Raids are on to nab them.

Varinder Singh, brother of the deceased, stated to the police that his brother went out for some work on Wednesday. Near a dispensary, the accused attacked him with a sharp weapon on his neck, leaving him critically injured. He said he was rushed to Baba Bakala Civil Hospital. He was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

He said Shamsher was a drug addict and he had around seven cases of robbery and also under NDPS Act against him. He said Gurjit Singh had also around 12 cases registered against him. Both were out on bail. He said Gurjit kept a grudge against Shamsher.

When Shamsher didn’t return, his family members started looking for him. The family found Babba and Chatha attacking Shamsher near the dispensary. They raised the alarm following which the accused fled away.

The family alleged that Gurjit was being sheltered by a political leader in the area. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused besides stern action against the political leader for sheltering criminal elements.
