Acting Takht Jathedar heckled at Jor Mela

The three-day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela in the memory of two elder Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh, who were bricked alive, concluded here today. 

Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh faced a protest by devotees as soon as he began addressing the congregation. The SGPC task force took them away.

On the occasion, a nagar kirtan was taken out from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Saroop Sahib. To mark the concluding ceremony, Harpal Singh, head granthi, Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, performed the ‘ardas’. 

Panj Piaras led the nagar kirtan, which was accompanied by school bands, gatka parties, Nihangs, kirtani jathas and Sukhmani Sahib Sewa societies. Different gatka performing parties were the main attraction of the procession. Braving the cold, lakhs of devotees participated in the nagar kirtan.

The procession was led by Giani Harpreet Singh, acting Jathedar, Akal Takht, Giani Jagtar Singh, head granthi, Harmandir Sahib, SGPC chief Gobind Singh Longowal, Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Dhuma, Baba Balbir Singh of Budha Dal and Nihal Singh Harianbelan of Tarna Dal. Jathedar Raghbir Singh of Keshgarh Sahib performed the ‘ardas’.

Giani Harpreet Singh called upon the Sikhs to wage a war against drugs and female foeticide.

Man detained for security breach

Fatehgarh Sahib: During the visit of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib during the Shaheedi Jor Mela, the police detained a man who was standing in front of the media gallery after his activities were found to be suspicious. V Neerja, IG, said one person, who had made his way into the media gallery, had been taken into custody and the police was verifying  his antecendents. His family told the police he was an addict.
