Act tough against traffic violators: Ambala DC

Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar today asked the district police to act tough against the traffic violators. She also directed the civic officials to ensure proper road signage and signals for the facility of the vehicle drivers and pedestrians as well.

Chairing a meeting of the district road safety committee here, she instructed the district police to tighten the noose around the traffic violators and initiate stringent action against the habitual and repeat offenders.

She also directed to check the illegal use of “jugad” (rehri/ rickshaws connected illegally with motor engines), which pose major threat to the road users.

Reviewing the road safety measures, the Deputy Commissioner asked the civic authorities to ensure proper display of zebra crossings, functioning of traffic signals, display of speed limit and warning boards, illumination of dark spots, maintenance of road dividers and all other facilities for the safety of vehicle drivers and pedestrians.

She took stock of the present condition of road safety facilities and pinpointed specific areas that need to be taken care of immediately.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh, SDMs Bharat Bhushan Kaushik, Aditi, Haryana Roadways General Manager Gauri Midha, DSP Munish Sehgal, District Education Officer Uma Sharma, District Town Planner and other district officials were also present at the meeting.

265 challaned

Continuing with its drive against traffic violators, the district police today challaned 265 drivers for various violations in the district. While 150 violators were issued e-challans, 26 were challaned for overspeeding, 14 for overloading and 64 for various other violations, the police said, while adding that a vehicle of habitual offender was also impounded during the drive.
