Sleuths of the Vigilance Bureau caught an accountant of a private nursing college for taking Rs 5,000 as bribe. The suspect was identified as Chamkaur Singh, who worked as an accountant at Guru Hargobind College of Nursing, Raikot.

The Vigilance Bureau SSP, Paramjit Singh Virk, said the suspect had demanded bribe from Gurmit Singh of Binjal village for issuing documents of his daughter.

The complainant’s daughter is studying in Canada. She required some documents from the college from where she completed her degree in nursing. When Gurmit went to the college to take documents, the accountant allegedly sought bribe from him. Gurmit told the police that Chamkaur had earlier taken Rs 10,000 as bribe for issuing documents. When Gurmit sent documents through courier to his daughter in Canada, she learnt that these were incomplete as per information.

Gurmit again went to meet Chamkaur for required documents, who allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 more from him for issuing corrected documents.

“Though Chamkaur Singh is an employee of a private institution, his duty is to deal with public in the college. Thus, a case has been registered against him,” said the SSP
