Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra has been nominated as the member of the Administrator’s Advisory Council re-constituted today by the administration. The administration has reduced the number of members up to 57 this time while ensuring that all sections of society get representation in the council.
In contrast to the earlier council, presidents of only three parties — the Congress, the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal — has been nominated to the council.
Only Mayor and immediate ex-mayor have been included in the council leaving all former mayors who were part of the council in the past . Besides, the presidents and representatives of the all major associations of trade, industrial, residents welfare associations and commerce have been given representation. Some renowned personalities from the field of culture, architecture, defence and legal have also been included in the list. The mandate of the advisory council is to advice the administration on development issues and policy matters affecting the UT.
The prominent members of the council include MP Kirron Kher; former MPs Satya Pal Jain, Pawan Kumar Bansal, Harmohan Dhawan; Mayor; immediate ex-mayor; president, BJP, Congress, SAD, Chandigarh; Vineet Joshi; PGI Director; PU VC; chairman, Marketing Board, Chandigarh; chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights; chairperson, Child Welfare Committee; president, Chandigarh Transport Association; president, Beopar Mandal; president, Federation of Sector Welfare Associations; president, CII, Northern Region; chairman, Chandigarh Residents Associations' Welfare Federation.
