Bathinda, December 6

Members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Malwa zone-1 carried out a protest rally alleging failure of the government in resolving prevailing issues at the state level. Raising slogans against the state government, the protesters took out a march from Tin Koni to the Mini-secretariat complex and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Bathinda Deputy Commissioner on Thursday.

Earlier, they conducted a meeting at a city hotel near Tin Koni where they discussed their plan of action regarding non-fulfilment of their demands.

Later addressing a press conference at the Circuit House, Budh Ram, chairman of the AAP (Punjab) core committee, said, “The state government has failed on all fronts. The government has no education policy. It has been two years since the Congress came to power, but it has failed to check corruption.”

Aam Aadmi Party’s Faridkot MP Sadhu Singh and Aman Arora, AAP MLA Sunam and other prominent faces of the party from the region participated in the event.

Budh Ram said, “The problem of stray animals could not be checked by the government. SC students have not received scholarships and sometimes they are forced to pay the examination fee. Demonetisation and GST have ruined businesses of small as well big traders.”

AAP MLA Aman Arora said, “Today’s protest march was conducted in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Farmers’ issues, teachers’ demands and sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib have all remained unresolved so far.”

“Navjot Singh Sidhu’s growing influence does not seem to have gone down well among Capt Amarinder Singh. Local workers of the party would be fielded in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,”

On the rift among party workers, Arora said due to the personal interest of a person, attempts are made to create factions in the party.

As for the upcoming panchayat elections, he said only honest candidates would be considered with the main emphasis on the youth of the state. Arora lauded the move to open the Kartarpur corridor. He said Pakistan must stop terrorist activities.
