New Delhi, December 17

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) blamed both the Congress and the BJP for the 34-year-long wait of the victims for justice.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “It has been a very long and painful wait for innocent victims who were murdered by those in power. Nobody involved in any riot should be allowed to escape no matter how powerful the individual may be.”

The party alleged that the BJP, which was in power between 1998 and 2004, “did nothing” towards ensuring a concrete probe in the matter.

Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka also welcomed the judgment and thanked everyone for their support and help. He said: “This is the first time a senior Congress leader has been convicted for a role in Sikh murders”.

A statement issued by AAP claimed that the accused in the riots were actively aided and abetted by all organs of governance. “Nobody expected the Congress, which was then in power, to do justice to riot victims and their families. All probes were a sham. Those who conducted mock inquiries were rewarded with plum posts,” it alleged. — PTI
