Chandigarh, February 13

Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police for Valentine’s Day in the city. A total of 776 cops will be on duty in the city and special nakas will be laid, especially near educational institutes and the gehri route, to keep an eye on hooligans.

The police said 776 police personnel, including three DSPs and 24 inspectors (16 of them SHOs), would be stationed in the city to maintain law and order.

According to the police, it has been noticed that youths indulge in traffic violations, including dangerous driving and eve-teasing. Such incidents are mainly reported from Panjab University, colleges and girls’ hostels, besides the gehri route.

The police said patrolling would be intensified in the city, especially around girls’ colleges and hostels, schools, parks and prominent market areas.

Women cops in civvies would also be deployed across the city to keep a close watch on anti-social elements.

Traffic cops would also keep a watch on people violating traffic rules.

Restricted road

The internal road from Sector 11 to Sector 10 will be turned into a restricted road to curb hooliganism.

Meanwhile, special 44 evening nakas will also be laid by the police from 4 pm to 10 pm.
