Tightening the noose around landlords who had given their houses and paying guest (PG) accommodations on rent to people without police verification, the police here today booked seven more people under Section 188 (disobedience to order promulgated by public servant) of the IPC.
House owners in the Zirakpur town were told to submit details of their tenants to the relevant police stations.
Acting on the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohali, Station House Officers of Zirakpur and Dhakoli had launched a special campaign in the town to verify registration of rented houses and buildings and those using them on rent.
The police said this is a part of a special drive on the directions of the SSP, Mohali, and FIRs have been registered against erring house owners under Section 188 of the IPC. It is mandatory for landlords to secure police verification for their tenants before renting out a property.
“Once a team reaches a house, which has been let out, it asks for the rent agreement and the tenant verification form. Failure to produce the documents results in the registration of an FIR against the landlord,” said the official.
