62-km cycle rally from city to Sultanpur Lodhi on Oct 20

Dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, city-based social bodies are organising a 62-km cycle awareness rally from Guru Nanak Mission Chowk to Sultanpur Lodhi on October 20.

An announcement in this regard was made by Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura, head of Dharti Suhavi, an NGO, and the main organiser of the event.

He said the rally was being organised under the aegis of Akal Eye Hospital. It would have the support of other social organisations, including Sikh Talmel Committee, Pahal and Punjabi Sath, besides prominent cycle clubs of the city. The aim of the rally was to make people aware of drug menace, health consciousness, polluted air and water and other social responsibilities, including education of the girl child.

During the rally, a special cleanliness campaign will be carried out and some garbage-picking vehicles will also accompany the rally to emphasise on the cleanliness of the road leading to Sultanpur Lodhi, he added.

Dr Nirmal Singh, head of Punjabi Sath, an NGO, also addressed the media and threw light on the importance of cycling for keeping the health intact.

He said the rally would start at 6 am and leave for Sultanpur Lodhi after prayer. It would be flagged off jointly by Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, local MLAs, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IG, Jalandhar Zone, Naunihal Singh, SSP (Rural) Navjot Singh Mahal and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal.

It will pass through Guru Amar Das Chowk, Manbro Chowk, Guru Ravidas Chowk, Lambra, Nakodar bypass, Malsian and Dalla to reach Sultanpur Lodhi.
