5 more held in Parwanoo firing incident

The Parwanoo police arrested five more persons involved in the Monday violence in which a group of miscreants had gone on a rampage and fired shots in the air.

Three had been arrested earlier. A special investigative team (SIT) was raiding the possible hideouts of the accused in and around Parwanoo as well as the bordering areas.

The miscreants had been identified on the basis of the CCTV footages obtained from the riot-affected area, said Additional SP Shiv Kumar Sharma, who added that efforts were underway to arrest all and also to recover the weapons.

The Chief Secretary convened a meeting in Shimla to examine the issue in which Deputy Commissioner, Solan, Vinod Kumar, SP Madhusudan Sharma and AC (Protocol), Parwanoo, SP Jaswal were also present. Issues pertaining to the operations of trucks, canters and jeeps were discussed.

A group of 40 to 50 people disturbed the peace in the town on Monday evening following an old feud between two groups of transporters.

Since the transporters were supposed to surrender their arms in view of the imposition of Section 144 of the CrPC, the probability of countrymade weapons having been used were high. TNS
