Five candidates have been left in the fray for the post of mayor and 133 for the posts of councillor in 26 wards of the municipal corporation (MC) here. Out of 10 candidates, five withdrew their nomination papers for the post of mayor on Saturday.
BJP candidate Avneet Kaur, Congress supported Anshu Pahwa, INLD-BSP alliance candidate Priyanka Kashyap and independent candidates Bharti and Seema Saini will contest for the post of mayor.
Loktantra Suraksha Party leader and BJP rebel Raj Kumar Saini announced the candidature of Seema Saini on Friday.
A total of 151 candidates had filed their nominations for the posts of councillor out of which 18 withdrew their papers. Four mayoral candidates are graduates, while Bharti holds diploma in computer science.
Symbols allotted to mayoral candidates
Assistant Returning Officer Gaurav Kumar allotted symbols to the mayoral candidates. Avneet Kaur got lotus (party symbol of BJP), spectacles (party symbol of INLD) to Priyanka Kashyap, chair to Anshu Pahwa; tap to Bharti and coconut tree with fruits to Seema Saini.
BJP will win all mayoral posts: Barala
State BJP president Subhash Barala said that the party would win all five mayoral posts and the party’s councillor candidates would also register win in their respective areas.
Interacting with mediapersons after a meeting with Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, state general secretary Sanjay Bhatia, Dr Archana Gupta, president, women cell, and other BJP functionaries, Barala said the Congress was afraid of contesting the MC elections on their party symbol.
