Five people were killed and five others injured as the Mahindra jeep they were travelling in fell into a gorge at Padhar in Mandi district on Thursday morning.
According to police, the deceased--two males and three females--were natives of Ropa village in the district.
At the time of the accident, 10 people were on the jeep, of which five died on the spot. The injured have been shifted to a hospital at Padhar.
The victims had hired the taxi to visit the area and after travelling a few kilometres the driver lost control over the vehicle. As a result, it rolled down the 250-metre-deep gorge.
Locals rushed to the spot and mounted a rescue operation besides sounding the administration.
Padhar DSP Madankant Sharma said the injured had been rushed to hospital, where their condition is said to be critical.
