Rewari, December 10

Five persons were killed and two others were injured in a collision between a car and a pick-up vehicle on the Rewari-Mahendragarh road near Saharanvaas village, here, on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Billu (32) of Surkhpur village, Bhopal Singh (35) of Murlipur village, Advocate Rakesh (30) of Rewari city, Ajit Singh (30) and Surender of Rampuri village, while the injured — Sher Singh of Siha village and car driver Raj Singh — have been admitted to a hospital where their condition is stated to be stable.

The incident took place when Billu, Rakesh, Raj Singh and Bhopal were coming back home in a car after attending a wedding function in Atali village near Kanina town (Mahendragarh). The car driver lost control over the vehicle near Saharanvaas village and hit the road divider. Consequently, the car rammed into the pick-up vehicle on the other side of the road. Ajit, Sher Singh and Surender were in the pick-up vehicle.

Sources said Billu, Rakesh, Raj Singh and Bhopal died on the spot while Ajit, Sher Singh and Surender suffered serious injuries. They were rushed to the hospital where Surender succumbed to his injures after sometime.

Billu was the husband of Surkhpur village’s sarpanch Poonam Devi and Bhopal was the husband of Kanta Devi, sarpanch of Murlipur village. The police handed over the bodies to their kin after a postmortem examination on Monday. The Rewari District Bar Association suspended work to mourn the death of Advocate Rakesh.

Vidha Sagar, SHO, Rampura police station, said a case had been registered against the car driver in connection with the mishap.
