45 boxes of liquor seized, 2 arrested

Kharar: In a joint operation by the Excise Department, Mohali, and the Kharar police, 45 boxes of liquor were seized from three vehicles on the intervening night of January 20 and 21. The police have registered three cases and arrested two persons in this regard. ASI Ashwani Kumar had set up a check-post near Badala Road, when he got information that liquor was being smuggled from Chandigarh to Punjab in a vehicle. At least  15 boxes of liquor were recovered. Similarly, 15 boxes of liquor were recovered from a vehicle near Bansan Wali Chungi. Two suspects Amrik Singh and Lakhvir Singh were arrested. In the third case, a team, led by ASI Balbir Singh also recovered 15 boxes of liquor. — OC
