Chandigarh, February 14

More than 4,000 government schools in the state have failed to power bills to the PSPCL and some of them even lost their connections.

The fact came to the fore in the Vidhan Sabha when AAP MLA from Sunam Aman Arora raised the issue during the Question Hour.

Giving a reply, Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar said the connections of 14 schools had to be cut due to non-payment of the electricity bills. The minister further clarified that 4,130 schools had defaulted in paying the bills and they owed Rs 7.02 crore to the PSPCL.

He said the annual bill of more than 19,000 schools in the state was Rs 16.84 crore.

Arora urged the Chief Minister, to look into the matter as soon as possible and mull over a waiver and restore electricity connection so that students did suffer. — TNS
