A 25-year old drug addict reportedly committed suicide by slashing his wrist at Gholia Khurd village in Nihalsinghwala subdivision of Moga district on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Baljinder Singh. This is the thirddrug death reported during the past fortnight.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased claimed that Baljinder was unwell following which he died in the hospital while undergoing treatment. However, the police did not take cognisance of this incident and no efforts were made to thoroughly probe the incident till the filing of the report.

As per information from Gholia Khurd village, the deceased youth demanded money from his parents to buy drugs, but they refused. Anguished over this, he started smashing his arms on a window in his room. One of his nerves got damaged resulting into excessive bleeding, which led to his death.

The local police, when contacted, claimed that they were unaware of the incident.

Meanwhil, AAP legislator from Nihalsinghwala constituency Manjit Singh Bilaspur and party spokesman Navdeep Singh Sangha alleged that the Congress government was trying to hide the deaths due to drugs. “The government has issued verbal instructions to the police to downplay the deaths due to drugs for their vested political interests,” they said and sought a white paper on the actual deaths reported due to drugs.
