24-year-old youth hangs self in Dera Bassi village

The local police today booked a woman and her daughter on the charge of abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at Haripur Hinduan village here on Monday evening.

The victim has been identified as Jasbir Singh, who hailed from Naraingarh and was putting up at a rented accommodation in Haripur Hinduan.

On getting information on Monday evening, a police team rushed to the spot and found Jasbir hanging from a ceiling fan. The victim used a dupatta to take the extreme step. The police also recovered an alleged suicide note written by Jasbir in which he blamed his wife and mother-in-law for forcing him to end his life.

The police handed over the body to the victim’s family members after an autopsy at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi.

Jasbir got married in 2014. He worked with a private factory at Kuranwala village, Dera Bassi. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife and mother-in-law. Further probe in the case was under way, the police said.
