As many as 23 members of seven families were rendered homeless at Kathalag village in Bilaspur district following a landslide.
Heavy rain in the past 24 hours has thrown normal life out of gear in several parts of Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts. Ten houses and six cowsheds were buried at Kathalag village.
Sham Lal, a local, said his son woke him up at about 5 am after noticing cracks on the walls of the house.
He raised the alarm and asked everyone in the village to come out of their houses.
The entire area was buried under debris within no time. Locals were rescued with the help of ropes.
Balwant Singh, another resident, who lost his house in the disaster, said it was devastating to see his house buried under the debris.
Shashi Pal Sharma, Sub-divisional Magistrate, Ghumarwin, rushed to the village and announced an immediate relief of Rs 40,000 each.
Ghumarwin MLA Rajender Garg said the administration had given an immediate relief to the affected families and the government would do everything to rehabilitate them.
