Bathinda, December 23

After waiting for the last five months for their pension, the retired PRTC Workers Union AITUC (All Indian Trade Union Council) staged a protest in front of the PRTC workshop here today.

The protesters burnt an effigy of the state government near the bus stand.

Demanding pension and clearance of medical bills since July this year, retired PRTCemployees today raised anti-government slogans. They blamed the state government for formulating policies that are against the retired employees.

In nine depots, more than 4,000 employees across the state have not got their pension, said district president of the PRTC Retired Workers Union, Gurbachan Singh Bathinda.

“We are demanding our rights as many of the pensioners are hand to mouth and living in pitiable conditions. We will continue our agitation until our demands are met.

“Our agitation started in the beginning of September while on September 17, a big protest was staged in Patiala where all the protestors from across the state gathered. On September 20, officials of the PRTC and the state government pacified us by promising the release pension soon but all in vain,” he said.
