A group of nearly 50 youths reportedly attacked two witnesses in a murder case on the premises of the Narnaul courts in the district on Thursday. The assailants also threw stones at the witnesses while fleeing.

On getting information, the police reached the spot and apprehended eight youths involved in the attack.

Sources said the motive behind the crime was to stop the witnesses from deposing before the court.

The incident took place in the afternoon when Parveen, a resident of Ramalwas village in Charkhi Dadri district, and Vikas, a resident of Khairoli village in Mahendragarh district, along with their friends were sitting in the lawn on the court campus.

Sources said the assailants came there and started manhandling the witnesses. They somehow managed to save themselves from the assailants. The police reached the spot and nabbed eight of the attackers.

Later, Vikas filed a complaint with the police demanding protection and stern action against the assailants. He said the assailants had threatened him of dire consequence if he did not turn hostile in the case. “Our two friends have suffered injuries in the attack. Vikas deposed in the court after the incident,” said Parveen.

Parveen and Vikas are the witness in the murder case of Akash, a resident of Bachini village. Akash was attacked by a group of assailants with iron rods in Paayga village in the district on December 7, 2017. Later, Akash succumbed to his injuries.

“Eight persons nabbed from the spot have been booked under Section 160 of the IPC,” said Ramesh Kumar, SHO, City Police Station, Narnaul.
