Ludhiana, February 13
A 12-year-old boy was killed and his father severely injured in an accident near Sidhwan Bet on Jagraon-Jalandhar Road past evening. The deceased has been identified as Sonu Sahni, a resident of Bangsipura village, near Sidhwan Bet. Sonu was a student of Class VI at a private school in Sidhwan Bet. His father, Udai Kumar Sahni, has been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). His condition is stated to be critical.
The accident took place when the father-son duo was going towards their village on a scooter. As soon as they reached near Sidhwan Canal, the scooter they were riding was hit by a vehicle from behind. After the collision, both of them fell on the road. Sonu died on the spot. The vehicle driver sped away immediately after the accident.
Passers-by informed the police following which a team from the Sidhwan Bet police station reached the spot and rushed both victims to Civil Hospital. The doctors declared the boy brought in dead and referred his father to the DMCH in Ludhiana.
The investigating officer, ASI Kulwant Singh, said the police had registered a case of negligent driving against the driver of an unknown vehicle and efforts were being made to trace him.
Biker dies after being hit by vehicle near Ladowal
A youth in his twenties died after being hit by a vehicle near Ladowal on the Ludhiana-Amritsar national highway past night. The deceased has been identified as Khushwant Singh (21), a resident of Hargobindpura Mohalla in the Islamganj area here. Khushwant, an employee of a private company, was returning home from workplace when the accident occurred.
According to information, the accident took place when the victim was coming towards Ludhiana from Phillaur on his motorcycle. As soon as he reached near Hardies World, the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a speeding vehicle. He died on the spot. The vehicle driver sped away after the accident.
Some passers-by informed the police following which a team from the Salem Tabri police station arrived at the spot. The police handed over the body of the victim to his family after post-mortem today.
The investigating officer, ASI Jasbir Singh, said the police had registered a case under Section 279 and 304 A of the IPC against the driver of an unknown vehicle and further investigation was on. Efforts are being made to trace the driver, he added.
