2 posing as cops land in police net

AMRITSAR: The local police have arrested two persons accused of impersonating as a DSP and a Head Constable of the Punjab Police.

The local police have arrested two persons accused of impersonating as a DSP and a Head Constable of the Punjab Police. Posing as cops, they used to dupe people on the pretext of providing them with jobs in the Police Department.

The suspects have been identified as Heera Singh, a resident of Jalal Usma village, and Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Gadhariwala in Ferozepur.

ASI Surinder Pal Singh, who investigating the case, from the Kot Khalsa police station said, “We had received a tip-off that Heera Singh posing as a DSP and Sukhwinder Singh posing as a Head Constable of Punjab Police were duping people on the pretext of providing them with jobs. We also came to know that they had a car with a blue beacon atop it. They had earned a big amount after duping people. After getting information, we had laid a special checkpoint near a gurdwara in Chheharta and arrested them.”

The police have recovered a Tata Safari car, a .32 bore revolver with five cartridges, an ID card of a DSP-rank officer, an ID card of the Punjab Police in the name of Head Constable Sukhwinder Singh and a bag containing a .32 bore revolver with five cartridges.

Besides, a black belt containing 25 cartridges of .315 bore pistol and a brown belt containing 15 cartridges of .12 bore rifle were also recovered from the suspects.

The ASI said they could not show any license of the weapons. “We are investigating the matter. During the preliminary investigation, we found that the suspects have duped a number of people on the pretext of provide them with jobs,” he added.
