2 interdisciplinary workshops held at CUP

Aimed at enhancing the teaching potential of young faculty members, a two-week  workshop on ‘Quantitative methods in social sciences’ started at Central University of Punjab (CUP) here on Wednesday. 

Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor BS Ghuman delivered the presidential address. The keynote speaker of the inaugural programme was professor Vinay Kumar Srivastava, director, Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata. Outreaching the other higher educational institutions, the programme was actively attended by faculty members from more than 70 institutions representing various states of India.

Another workshop on ‘Understanding Indian politics and economy’ was also organised at the varsity campus. These two workshops were organised by the Teaching Learning Centre of University. 

Dr Vinod Arya, co-ordinator, teaching learning centre (TLC) of varsity, welcomed the guests and highlighted the objectives and methodology of TLC.

Dr Bawa Singh discussed the concept of this workshop with participants. Professor P Ramarao, dean academic affairs, shared the profile and key achievement of professor Ghuman. 

Ghuman spoke on the basic premises of positivism and the challenges to deal with the inequalities existing in society.
