Eighteen animals were charred to death and property worth lakhs was destroyed after two houses were gutted in separate fire incidents in Doda district on Monday.

The first incident took place in the house of Tirath Ram in Gajoth village of Bhaderwah, where an animal shed caught fire, burning alive 115 goats, two bulls and a horse.

Locals along with a team of the Bhalla police post put out the blaze around 7 am. Two rooms adjoining the cattle shed were also gutted.

In another incident, property worth lakhs was burnt to ashes after the house of Amar Chand in Sheinkly village of Dessa gutted in a devastated blaze on Monday afternoon.

“The family was rescued in time. However, they lost everything in the fire and need immediate help from the administration,” a local said.
